Vision of the Mining Department is to promote systematic exploration and development of mineral resources. For this purpose Directorate of Geology is established having headquarters in Nagpur and regional offices in Chandrapur, Nagpur, Kolhapur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to manage mineral activities across the state. 

The Directorate working under department undertakes geological mapping, mineral exploration, reserve estimation, regulatory functions, and supports the state's mining policy initiatives. It also facilitates auctioning of mineral blocks in a transparent manner.
